About Kress

For nearly a century, they remained steadfast in its commitment to electric motors, never venturing into the realm of internal combustion engines—and it never will. Unlike traditional brands that are now incorporating cordless models into their primary fossil fuel outdoor power equipment (OPE) ranges in response to growing environmental awareness, this company has dedicated itself exclusively to the production of electric motors. This commitment to innovation and quality has made Kress an icon of German engineering, trusted by generations of professional users for its reliable tools.

The story of this company began in 1928 when the founder established a workshop for car electronics. From its inception, they focused on designing and manufacturing DC and AC electric motors. In the early 1960s, the company decided to diversify its product range. By 1964, a new factory in Bisingen, Germany, was operational, marking the start of manufacturing stationary workshop machines. The year 1969 saw the launch of a comprehensive range of portable power tools, further solidifying their reputation in the industry.

In 1979, Kress expanded its innovation capabilities by establishing a new research and development center in Wattwil, Switzerland. This move facilitated the expansion of their product range, with a particular emphasis on cordless tools. To reach a broader market, they enhanced its distribution network, making its products available in 60 countries through specialized dealers.

A significant milestone in Kress’s history occurred in 2017 when the brand joined the international Positec group. This partnership brought a substantial infusion of capital and advanced R&D capabilities, allowing them to fully commit to developing cordless outdoor power equipment tailored for commercial landscapers and discerning homeowners. This strategic move marked the beginning of the end of reliance on fossil fuels.

In 2023, they achieved another significant milestone with the launch of the 8-minute CyberSystem, a cutting-edge battery system that features the world’s fastest charging times. This innovation represents the culmination of nearly a century of dedication to electric motor technology and underscores Kress’s unwavering commitment to a sustainable, fossil-fuel-free future.

New Kress Robotic Mowers

Kress RTKn Series

The Kress RTKn series is the entry point into wire-free robotic mowing, covering residential lawns from a quarter acre up to 1.25 acres. Models in this range include the KR161 (1/4 acre), KR172 (1/2 acre), KR173 (3/4 acre), and KR174 (1.25 acres), with the KR173 and KR174 adding Kress’s Obstacle Avoidance System.

All RTKn mowers navigate using satellite-based Real Time Kinematic positioning delivered over the air, which means no boundary wire to bury, no beacons to mount, and no antenna to install on your roof or property. Setup is handled entirely through the Kress app. For homeowners on the NH seacoast looking to eliminate weekend mowing on a manageable-sized lawn without a complicated install, the RTKn series is the most accessible way into the Kress lineup.

Kress RTKn Large Area Series

The Kress RTKn large area series scales the same wire-free RTKn technology to properties that smaller residential robotic mowers simply cannot handle. The KR233 covers up to 3 acres, the KR236 and KR236S cover up to 6 acres, and the KR237 handles up to 7 acres, all with the Obstacle Avoidance System included as standard.

These models are built for larger seacoast residential properties, estate lots, and light commercial grounds where running a ride-on or zero-turn every week is time that could be better spent elsewhere. The RTKn large area series uses the same satellite-guided navigation and app-based zone management as the residential models, just with the battery capacity and cutting coverage to match the scale of the property.

Kress EyePilot 4×4 Series

The EyePilot 4×4 is Kress’s most capable residential robotic mower, built for properties that demand more than standard two-wheel-drive machines can deliver. It runs on a four-motor all-wheel-drive drivetrain with true front-wheel steering, which eliminates the turf wear caused by skid steering on turns and maintains stable traction on slopes up to 84% grade.

The self-levelling blade and independent axles keep the cutting plane consistent as the terrain changes beneath the mower, a meaningful advantage on the uneven, sloped lots common throughout the NH seacoast. RTKn precision is enhanced with vision AI for redundant positioning, and integrated 4G is included on select models with no additional subscription or activation required.

Models cover from half an acre (KR282) to one acre (KR284) and beyond, with Zero Trim for edge-accurate cuts and Premium Security built in. For seacoast homeowners with complex terrain, tight property lines, or lawns that have defeated other robotic mowers, the EyePilot 4×4 is worth a close look.
